This is a story of one of many stray animals my mother fed when living in North Carolina. This cropped-eared cat saw the neon “OPEN” sign that all animals seemed to see when passing mom’s house. Soon, she frequented the house so often she was given a name.
Over the past 10 years my work has evolved. I no longer feel the need to constantly work for realism. Sometimes it feels right to work more loose and free with a mood that could be.
I’m currently interested in spaces and the stories that fill those spaces. My work is a combination of abstract and Impressionism. To me the most important thing is harmonizing and expressing through color. I sometimes lean on themes or symbols making connections between the subject matter and what it means to me. My art is usually an optimistic communication to the viewer. Sometimes I just want to go to another place and take the viewer along with me. Even home can be a vacation.
